Boys Boys Boys - Live Action Documentaries 1

Festival
PÖFF Shorts 2020
Programme
Doc@Shorts

This programme does exactly what it says on the tin as it provides a focus on the stories of men of different ages who come from backgrounds which can often be worlds apart. The films on offer here highlight a reality of complex choices which sometimes lead to the pain of loss and loneliness. But these films prove that there’s also room for a glimpse of hope and beauty in the experiences of our protagonists.

A young man has drowned in a river, but no body was found. His father seeks the body, day after day, on the shores of the river. A specialised emergency-situation search party is scouting the riverbed in a lifeboat. Four young men recount the accident which happened a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, the river flows on, but the mood it evokes, calm and serene at the beginning, changes dramatically.

The man from the border has spent his entire life searching for the biggest fish that the blue Danube hides. Every sunrise sees the old fisherman attempt to lure the river giant in an ancient fishing way by clapping on the river surface with a hand-carved piece of wood. Two rivals - one on the surface of the water and the other concealed within the depths of the mighty river are waiting to finally meet.
